The Important Stages Of Socializing Dogs

When you want to get a family pet, it is important to introduce them to family and friends by socializing dogs throughout their entire life. A lot of experts recommend doing this while they are still puppies, but now a growing number recommend regular exposure even when they are adults to prevent regressive behaviors.

Pups learn a lot about the environment early in its age; for most breeds, the most important time for socializing and interacting with people, places and other animals is around one to three months of age. Exposing it to friendly neighbors and friends, and taking it outside will help develop it into a friendly animal.

However, if these negative encounters happen regularly, such as an unfriendly neighbor or friend, these can imprint on your pet’s memory. To combat these, make sure encounters are friendly and positive. A good idea is to take it to basic training class at about six months of age. Here, your pet learns to interact with other animals, receives positive feedback, and learns basic commands from you.

When your pup has grown up, don’t forget to continue the positive reinforcement it experienced when it was younger. A lot of problems with aggressive pets start at around eight months of age. Suddenly, the friendliest of these animals either become fearful of certain occasions or locations, or show aggressive behavior even with close family friends. They’ve reverted back to their pre-training days and instinctive behaviors have taken over.

There are many reasons that can cause this, but usually an abrupt change in its environments or its owner’s behavior can have a negative effect. Moving to a new place with fewer friendly people can change your pet’s behavior. Likewise, if a new baby is born to a family and a lot of attention is diverted away from the dog, that can also trigger an aggressive response.

A good way to continue the positive reinforcement is to take it on daily walks. If you are unable to do this yourself, ask a close friend to do it for you. It won’t take more than thirty minutes or an hour, but the effect it can have will last the entire day. Similarly, having your friends over once in a while will also help maintain your pet’s good attitude.

There are other examples you can find on the internet. In each of these cases, you will find that continued practice of socializing dogs is what helped them with their pets

How Dog Walking Businesses Can Benefit You

Hectic lives and wanting a break can be difficult, especially when you have to think about your beloved pet. There are many options that you can take when it comes to finding someone to look after your animal but it all depends on whether you are comfortable with putting the dog in kennels or to opt for a dog boarding, dog walking or pet sitting business.

Whether you decide to opt for a professional company or someone who is self-employed, there are many more benefits to having somebody in your home looking after your dog, rather than taking them to a generic kennel, even kennels that have been recommended by people that you know.

Having someone to look after your dog while you are away has benefits for your pet. One of the first advantages means you do not have to put the animal into a kennel and it stays in its own environment. It can stick to a regular routine and its usual diet. Dogs are like humans in the way that they like routine, that way they know what they are doing and it can help them stay fit and healthy.

Travelling and new places can be harmful to your pet, they find going to new surroundings traumatic, and especially when surrounded by people they do not know who are looking after them. A kennel can also mean being surrounded by other pets and a lack of care and love. By having one person that is used to looking after animals, your pet can be cared for the whole time that you are away, which will help it to stay happy and healthy.

Of course, these advantages are not just for your pet, but also for your own state of mind. You want to know that your animal is constantly being looked after. This is more likely when it is done by somebody in your own home who only has your dog, or many a handful of animals, to look after. You can be in the knowledge that your dog is being cared for, fed properly and groomed as well as any diseases or illnesses are caught early so that you dog can receive the correct treatment.

It can also mean that your house is also more secure. The sitter will be in and out of your home on a daily basis, which will deter thieves from breaking in and stealing anything. There may also be times that the person you have hired will stay the night to look after you pet, which will keep it, and your animal, secure during the most dangerous time.

So if you have found your work schedule increasing so you cannot take your dog for a walk or you are planning on going away for a few weeks, it is time to consider a dog walking, dog boarding or pet sitting business to help you and your pet feel more comfortable.
