If you own a dog then you, like any other owner, will be fully aware that your canine is very much a part of the family. As a part of the family you will want to make sure that your animal is always comfortable, especially if it is ill or has any sort of joint pain. To this end, heated dog beds are extremely useful, and if you want to create your own one then simply follow these steps.
The first thing to do is to simply go out and buy a regular dog bed. This can either be a very simple cushion that your dog sleeps on, or a basket type bed with low sides and a removable cushion within it.
It is important that you place the bed in the right position and so you should make sure that it is away from any drafts coming from windows or doors and that it is also close to a power socket as well. Once you have positioned your bed you can place the heating pad that you should also have purchased either beneath the cushion or inside if it can be unzipped.
Now it is important for you to turn on the heating pad and try to find the right sort of temperature to suit the specific cushion and your animal. If the question is relatively thin then a low temperature setting should be used, but if the cushion is thick then a higher temperature setting is more suitable.
Try putting the heating pad up to its highest temperature and then letting the cushion warm up. Once it has warmed up sufficiently, test out the temperature to try to find the optimum temperature for your animal.
In order to save energy it is also a good idea to make sure that the heating pad is turned off whenever your dog is not in its bed.
