Having any pet is a rewarding experience, but dogs have to be the best of the bunch. They give you unconditional love and companionship and never argue with you! Some people prefer the independent streaks that cats have, but I love how loyal and friendly dogs are and as dogs are the most popular pets in the world right now then I guess lots of other people agree with me. Make sure you prepare properly if you are going to get a dog and you know exactly how to care for them and all the responsibilities you will have from then on, it is not fair to get one and then realize it is hard work to look after them and send them to a rescue center.

Now we will look at 3 things that everybody who owns a dog should know.

Your dog needs training: We tend to let puppies get away with far too much as they are so adorable and we think they don’t know better, however when they are puppies then that is the best time to train them in how they should behave. A lot of people don’t bother with training, but if you don’t then you dog thinks it can get away with too much and will start to develop some really bad habits. Like chewing things to bits, particularly their dog bed, which means you have to buy a chew resistant dog bed if you refuse to train them out of the habit.

It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to train your dog either. Probably the best way to go about it is to find some evening classes near you where you learn and implement the techniques with a group of people and a trainer. You need to use the skills you learn in the time between lessons though don’t forget, your dog won’t learn much from just an hour or so of training per week.

Grooming is important: There are professionals out there who can groom your dog for you, but if you take your dog to be groomed every week then that is going to cost you a small fortune, save it for special occasions. It is also a great time to bond with your dog so it is not something you should be getting a stranger to do. It is easy to groom your dog too, just run a dog brush through their fur to keep it tidy and remove any excess, then as you do that inspect their body for any sign of tick bites or any cuts and other injuries that might need further attention.

You need to make time for your dog: People tend to think of pets as different to children so they don’t think they need any attention and affection, but that is not the case. Just like with young children then if you do ignore your dog for too long then they might try to get your attention another way, by being bad so that you are forced to give them attention. To avoid that then take some time to enjoy playing with them each day, or when you take them out for a walk them give them some attention and take a ball out to play then.

The “watch" command is extremely useful and should be taught to your dog early. The process is simple: hold a treat between your eyes and use the command. When the dog gets this idea, start moving your hand parallel to your face. Naturally, your dogs eyes should follow the treat. The moment he looks back at you, as if to say, "Aren’t you going to give me that?" reward him. Pretty soon, he’ll learn that looking you in the eyes is the best way to get what he wants. This technique is valuable for helping your dog to focus on you during distracting situations.

It is of utmost importance that you portray yourself as a calm and confident leader when you are training your dog. Dogs are pack animals, and they only feel secure and willing to obey and submit when they trust that you are a capable leader of the pack. When your dog looks up to you as the leader, it will be eager to please you and it will obey your commands.

One of the bags I bought was broke open, so when I took the bag out of the shipping box, dog food went everywhere. The delivery time is also something that needs improvement. The common objection appears to be the soy used in Newman’s to increase the protein count. I am willing to put a little flavor in this to feed may dog high quality, social responsible food.

In fact, my cat loves the new formula even more than the old. She’s getting a little fat. I just signed on to reorder and noticed that Amazon increased the price from $41.99 to $55. In theory, there goes free shipping.

They rolled it into the new cost of the food. Now, it is no cheaper for me to purchase it on Amazon since my neighborhood pet store sells it for $54.00 and I don’t have to order it 7-10 days ahead just to make sure I get it before our current supply runs out.

The Canidae, however, is perfect for my multi dog household, which often includes dogs ranging from puppyhood to senior status. The ingredients are phenomenal and, as all reviewers have said, the food contains no corn, wheat or soy, all common allergens in dogs. What more could you ask” One important thing to consider – if you have a senior dog, it is important to feed them the senior formula so they can digest the food easier. Both company control the ingredients, manufacture the food, have numerous quality checkpoints, and do their own distribution. My dogs are different ages and have different needs so I do a blend of the CalNat and Orijen and WOW, what a difference.

My understanding is dog food is weighted and the ingredients listed based on that weight prior to them being reduced in the cooking process. Meaning when your ingredient list – lists chicken first, that is precooked weight. I would recommend it to anyone. My next door neighbor orders it now from Amazon for his Pittie girl.

All of my dogs are also eating less and maintaining their weight nicely. Less food means less waste in the yard. They gobble it up! I now have it on subscription so we don’t run out.

In cases where your puppy is suffering a great deal of pain, try soaking a washcloth in water and freezing it as a numbing chew toy.

Always use your dogs name when you need his attention. To maintain control of your dog, you must be able to encourage a favorable response. Use your dog’s name several times a day. Never use your dog’s name in association with punishment.

Keep your dog’s attention focused on something else if something really bothers him. For example, if your dog doesn’t like other dogs, try to keep him entertained and busy as you pass by other dogs on walks. With time, your dog will get used to seeing other animals.

Repeat training exercises every day until your dog remembers them. Pet owners often believe that once their dog completes a training program, the process is over. Pets, just like humans, need to be reminded of the rules now and then. This is why on-going training is important.
